What do you know about this breed? It is good to find out something more about the breed than just the outlooks. If possible, meet as many SWDs as available to see the variety of the breed (size, coat, charachters), search the health statistics, interview the breeders with the right questions and then at last decide, what do you really wish from the breed or the breeder you are to choose.
Beforehands, you can think about the hobbies. Contact with he local training-clubs and find out the puppy-courses which are advantageous for all dogs. On the courses one learns to socialize the puppy, the basic things about dog-behaviour and also the courses give a good opportunity to change experiences with the other puppy owners. What do you wish to do with your SWD? Suitable hobbies are for example: shows, agility, searching, behaviour, retrieving (hunting), dog-dance and also water-rescue.
The every-day -life with an young SWD asks for basic dog trainig skills. A clever dog won't satisfy with a poor leaderhip except they need active socializing, strong leadership and safe guidance.
